Aluminium Doors for Entrances and Garden Openings

Aluminium can bring a consistent, slim-framed appearance to an entrance or glazed garden opening. We supply and fit aluminium front and back doors and sliders, with the material, finish and opening layout chosen to suit the house.

Choose aluminium for the whole elevation

The appeal of aluminium is often how little frame interrupts the glass. That makes it worth considering where doors sit alongside large windows, or where a rear extension needs one consistent appearance. At a front entrance, it can also suit a simpler contemporary design rather than a moulded timber-look panel.

Look at the elevation as a whole before selecting a door. Existing windows, the roof edge, brickwork and render influence the result. An aluminium door does not require aluminium windows throughout the house, but compare the proposed sightlines and finishes where different materials meet on the same wall.

Front and back doors have different priorities

An aluminium front door needs to work with the hall as well as the outside appearance. Consider whether glass is needed for daylight, how much privacy the entrance requires and which way the leaf should open. A back door may be more about the garden view and frequent trips outside.

The survey considers the whole frame and the space the moving door needs. A narrow side path, close-fitting blind or internal cupboard can affect the arrangement. The aim is a door that works without having to move furniture or compromise the route through the room every time it opens.

Aluminium sliding doors for a clear view

Sliding doors move within their frame rather than swinging into the room. They suit an opening where floor space is limited or where large panes and a view of the garden matter. Part of the opening remains occupied by glass when the slider is open, so it is important to understand the usable passage rather than looking only at the total frame width.

Consider the finish, visible frame widths and how the doors relate to other glazing, alongside the way the panels move. If opening most of a wall is the main aim, compare a bifold layout before committing to a slider.

Warmth is about more than the metal

Aluminium conducts heat, which is why the frame construction matters in a domestic door. A thermal break separates the inner and outer metal sections to reduce heat transfer through the frame. Glass, panels, seals and fitting also affect how comfortable the entrance feels.

When reviewing a proposed door, ask about the complete specification rather than assuming every aluminium frame performs alike. A draught can come from alignment or a failing seal, while condensation can also reflect humidity and ventilation in the room. Material alone is not a diagnosis for either problem.

Colours, locking and the threshold

Aluminium finishes are powder coated, giving a broad choice of colours. Agree the outside and inside appearance alongside the handles and any adjacent aluminium windows. The same design can read quite differently with dark external frames and a lighter room-side finish.

Our aluminium doors have multi-point locking. The mechanism, cylinder and correctly aligned frame work together, so the chosen hardware belongs in the written quote. Threshold height and external levels also need attention: a low step should not leave rainwater with an easy route indoors. We discuss these details before the doors are made.

A quote based on the opening you have

Every frame is measured, made and fitted by our own team. We provide a free survey with a fixed written price and no-pressure quotations. The site is left tidy at the end of each day. Questions

Common Questions

Are aluminium front doors any good?

They can suit a contemporary entrance and a preference for slim, consistent frames. The panel, thermal break, locks and installation matter alongside appearance. Compare the complete door set with composite or uPVC if budget or a traditional panel design is your priority.

Do aluminium doors get cold?

Metal conducts heat, but a thermal break reduces transfer between the outer and inner frame. Glass, seals and correct fitting also matter. Specify the complete domestic door rather than judging warmth from the material name alone.

Can aluminium doors match aluminium windows?

They can be planned together for a consistent colour and frame appearance. We discuss the finish and visible frame widths at the survey. Matching the material does not mean every opening has to use the same moving layout.

Should I choose an aluminium slider or a hinged door?

A slider suits a glazed opening where swing space is limited. A hinged door suits a defined entrance with sufficient clearance. The size of the opening and the route through the room are the practical starting points.
